Sex ratios of death caused by injury and poisoning are 280 : 100 in 1981 and 300:100 in 1991 Regarding the age distribution of deaths caused by injury and poisoning, the motor vehicle traffic accident ranks the higest in every age bracket. As for
sex
distribution of deaths caused by injury and poisoning, the proportion of deaths caused by motor vehicle traffic accidents was high in both males and females. The numbers of death caused by suicide and self-inflicted injury is decreasing. The
mortality
rates caused by injury and poisoning are high in summer and autumn, compared with other seasons. The numbers of death caused by the motor vehicle traffic accident rank high in autumn, drowning in summer and unspected accidents and accidental

suicide
and
self-inflicted injury was high in rural area. Regarding the international comparison of major cause-specific death rate, the proportion of death caused by accidents and side effects was high in Korea, compared with England, Germany, Japan. The
proportion of death by motor vehicle traffic accidents in Korea was three times as high as that of Japan in 1989. But the proportion of death caused by suicide and self-inflicted injury rank low in Korea, compared with Japan and Germany except
